The clearest current free trial is the separate Steam product Pax Autocratica: Prologue (App ID 4107120), released 1 December 2025. It is free and single-player.
What it contains
The Prologue focuses on the first sector, Elysia, and includes a smaller sample of base and combat play.
What differs
Official descriptions say its base and battle scale are smaller than the paid Early Access game. Deeper automation, mechs and some later systems are absent. The old Demo and Prologue once shared a build, but new players were directed to Prologue.
Save warning
Older developer discussion said Demo/Prologue saves would be supported in Early Access. The current transfer process has not been retested here, so back up saves and verify before relying on it.
